topic Error Message:parameter list too long in Operating System - HP-UX

I have a N4000 machine that has started giving me the message "parameter list too long" or "arg list too long". Some work was done on it earlier and now this is happening. I can do no commands on it except "cd, echo" or some basic command. No "sh" command will work.
Does anyone have a fix without reloading the system? Ihave tried to use my vmiunix.prev and it does the same thing.

Gary Stewart

Since most shell commands are failing, this sounds fairly serious and not related to the kernel. Most likely some libraries (especially shared libraries) may have been overwritten with files from an incompatible system (ie, 10.xx). If this happens for every user including root, it might take days to sort out all the problems. A reinstall is probably the best choice...unless you made an Ignite/UX copy of the system in which case it's only an hour or so to get everything back to normal.
