I am wondering if a reboot is necessary to fix these errors. I hate to do it in the middle of the day....but

Just another thought before reboot,
Have you tried after Rita's suggestion to shutdown the lp spooler and starting it again?

Best regards
Victor

OCD = outbound connection deamon. This is a specialized program that writes to serial printers.

The pointer to the other OCD discussion does have some good information. However, it seems that you have some additional questions.

First, NO you don't need to reboot to clear these errors. Actually they are not really errors, but status messages explaining what is happening with the deamon and the printer.

The problem is that the DTC did not respond to the timing query in the time that the deamon wanted. So, the deamon decided to stop the printer and restart it. This is where the pseudonym messages come in.

You state that you are getting these "constantly." It sounds like there are some connection or network problems. I would check these out first. If they prove fine, then you might think about increasing some timers in the dp file.

I would suggest placing a call to the Response Centers and get them working on this issue. Traces could be taken to look at the response times to the OCD queries. These times could then be compared to the timers in the dp file. You might need to tailor the dp file to the printer/DTC environment.

BTW: You can possibly ignore the "connection reset by peer" message. It could be related but it might just cloud the printer issue. Since it comes from telnetd, it is not directly connected to this issue.

Good luck
