DLT8000 doesn't work on K580

Hi all,

I have problem my with DLT8000 tape device on K580 server. When I change old DLT7000 for new DLT8000, system recognise new device with tape2 driver.

but I can't work with tape device /dev/rmt/1m. I get I/O error (mt) or cannot open /dev/rmt/1m (tar).

Hardware is K580 server with hpux 11.00.
I don't know where is the problem. Can you help me, please?

Hi,

The first thing I would do is change the SCSI LUN number, to make sure that it is different.
Also the DLT8000 should be using the 'stape' driver not 'tape2'. Do you have it (stape) kernel parameter installed?

The tape2 driver does not support DLT8000 drives. Unfortunately your HP-PB based SCSI interface needs that driver.

To use a DLT8000 with your K-Class you would need to attach the drive to a HSC-bus SCSI interface and use the stape driver with that.

Hi,
We had also faced this "problem"
You need HSC scsi card for DLT8000 drive.
It does not work with HP-PB cards.
