      <description>i have define ftp service in /etc/servicesftp-data      20/tcp                 # File Transfer Protocol (Data)&lt;BR /&gt;ftp           21/tcp                 # File Transfer Protocol (Control)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;and from another pc i can ping the box ,but when i ftp the box from that pc:&lt;BR /&gt;connected to 202.96.*.*&lt;BR /&gt;connection closed by remote host&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;whats up?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;in /etc/inetd.conf , check if the line ftp is commented, if so uncomment it and do&lt;BR /&gt;#inetd -c&lt;BR /&gt;if this doesn't start the ftp the&lt;BR /&gt;#/usr/sbin/inetd&lt;BR /&gt;should solve your problem</description>

      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;Things to check.&lt;BR /&gt;edit /var/adm/inetd.sec , see  any restrictions are put for your problematic network.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Also edit /etc/ftphosts , see any deny rules are put for your network. if any remove it.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;regards,&lt;BR /&gt;U.SivaKumar</description>

      <description>You said you can ftp from machine in one subnet but not the other.  Do you have a firewall between them?  Check the setting.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Also check /etc/shells and make sure you are using a legal shell.</description>

      <description>I had a similar problem.  It seemed that when I attempted to start an ftp session, if the user's shell was /usr/bin/ksh it would not work, but when it was /usr/bin/sh it would.  It did not matter to me which shell was used, so I left it as /usr/bin/sh.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Maybe that's the problem.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;- Allan</description>
