Hi,

My server is D370 with HPUX-11 64-bits. But recently I installed with Oracle Server 8.1.7.0 64-bits, then I am trying to use sqlplus or svrmgrl to create database, but failed. Failed with error code ORA-24327: "need explicit attach before authenticating a user".
Just wonder why, Oracle program 64-bits couldn't run on this OS, but Oracle program 32-bits can run properly without any problem.

Does anyone ever encounter this problem before ? Would appreciate to share.

Thanks,

Alianto

Hi,

This is a rather generic error but usually refers to the Oracle environment not being setup properly.

According to the following link, there are a number of things that could cause this error. Here are some things you may like to check:

http://edocs.bea.com/wlp/docs40/faq/faq.htm

1) Verify that Oracle is running.

Be sure to have the Oracle TNS Listener Service running, so that it is available to listen for attempts to connect to the database (Windows systems).

2) Check your ORACLE_HOME environment variable, to be sure it is set correctly.

Make sure the directory containing the Oracle OCI driver is in your PATH.

3) Verify that <ORA-HOME>\bin is in your PATH.

Be sure your TNSNAMES.ORA file has an entry for your database instance, and make sure that entry is correct.

Hope this helps. Regards.

Steven Sim Kok Leong</ORA-HOME>
