topic diskspace in Operating System - HP-UX

Hello,

I have a problem with old HP-UX 9 workstations. There is a difference between the bdf command, and the disktab. In my opinion the disk /dev/dsk/6s0 should have a capacity of 400 MB. Who are the missing 60 MB?

Thanks

bdf:
/dev/dsk/6s0 339066 304010 1149 100% /

disktab:
QUANTUM_PD425S: :422.2 MB:ns#30:nt#9:nc#1527: :s0#412290:b0#8192:f0#1024: :se#512:rm#3600:

diskinfo
SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/6s0:
vendor: QUANTUM
product id: PD425S
type: direct access
size: 416575 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 512

I think the old 9.0 hfs filesystems used to, by default, reserve 10% of the space for use by the system. You can adjust this when creating the filesystem (or newfs'ing it to reset to a lower value). I cant remember if you could adjust it on the fly - I dont think so. Also, the size of the disk is in Kbytes so you need to divide by 1024 to get the real value (which is lower than 400MB, and then lose another 10% for the system and your almost at the size you can see now).
Hi,

Yes the old 9.04 used to reserve 10% diskspace and it will show you that the filesystem is full but still would allow you to use the 60MB space.

This is just for precuation so that your filesystem does not get full suddenly and your system or process should not hand.

Piyush

Hi,

I guess you mean the minfree. This is not the problem. After this posting I read the original disktab. In this file is more than one data set. The sixth entry shows a size of 340 MB a reserved swapspace of 60 MB. I guess the 6 in the devicefile means the sixth entry is used. But I???m not sure.

Nevertheless Thanks for help.
