Hello:

I am planning a migration from 11i to 11.23 in a preproduction environment(PA-RISC). This system runs weblogic and oracle. Any advises?

Mario,

I will stick the Forum standard:

Do a cold install of 11.23 and then vgimport your oracle and any other data disks.

It's easier, cleaner, gives you the opportunity to fine-tune the sizing of your root logical volumes, clean out your patch data base, and gives you a nice, known starting point.

hi Pete,
A stupid question : is software depot like bind, md5sum, sudo, qpopper etc... installed for B11.11 (ie ixQpopper_A.03.00-4.0.5_HP-UX_B.11.11_32+64.depot) are compatible with 11.23 or it is necessary to found and install new version ?

The problem here is that all the datas are in vg00.

the theory says that in PA-RISC the binaries are compatible. I will say if it is true after making it.

You will get better performance if you re-compile the binaries...

Our 11iv2 migrations have all been new servers or fresh installs on existing ones.

I've seen no evidence on forums to indicate that cold install is not the best way to go. upgrade-ux is risky.

If you do it anyway, make_tape_recovery backup first and recompile all applications. Thats almost mandatory. Oracle must be relinked.

This will give you a good chance, then, to get all the datas out of vg00. Not sure what you mean by preproduction, but it sounds like some form of test or development environment that you could afford the down time to re-build it correctly.
