Hostname resolvation is done based on,

/etc/nsswitch.conf files hosts: entry.

If it is going to be with NIS then hosts: entry will be with NIS.

hth.

Hi,

In order to check whether a computer is configured as NIS-client, look at the file called /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs. There are the following parameters in the file, which define its NIS features: NIS_CLIENT, NIS_MASTER_SERVER and NIS_SLAVE_SERVER. Also look for NISPLUS parameters.
In order to know whether the computer uses DNS for name resolution, look at /etc/resolv.conf. This file describes DNS servers.
The order of name resolution one can see in /etc/nsswitch.conf.

HTH
