Hello,

This should be an easy 10 pointer for you.

We have a client who just bought a new rp5470 with a MirrorDisk/UX license. She would like to install HPUX 11 though on it (it comes with HPUX 11i). Will the license still work on HPUX 11? Product number is B2491BA for MirrorDisk/UX. I have Application CD for 11, but will codeword supplied still work?

No, the codewords are tied to the part numbers of the CD.

You may find you are able to get a new codeword from here:

Thanks for your answers so far.

So what gives? I noticed that the description of the product number states: "MirrorDisk/UX License for Servers", without mentioning any version of OS. I should use the CDs which came with the server then? It says they are for HPUX 11i though.

The license in itself is still valid : You still have the right to run MirrorDisk/UX on a server.
If you install HP-UX 11.0, you will need the 11.0 MirrorDisk/UX software. This normally can be found on the 11.0 application CD's.
This MirrorDisk software is password protected and every CD has it's own password, so although you have a license to run MirrorDisk, you still have to request a new password to retreive the software from CD.

hi,

confusing but B2491BA is the product number for 11.11 and 11.00.

since the Application CD is for 11.00, MirrorDisk UX from that CD will work on 11.00.

Hi Vince,

You have to request for a new codeword as Duncan has mentioned because the codeword is tied to the CD eventhough the product# may be the same.

hi vincent,

it is licenced ok for 11 as others have said, but the software will not insatll without the correct codeword. the 11i codeword will not work with the 11 app cd.

just contact hp or go to www.licensing.hp.com
and they should be able sort it for you and give you a new codeword provided you havent already used it aswell.

Im more concerned by the OS your client wants to install, since the box was bought recently where does the HPUX11 cd come from? I thought the sales of hpux11 stopped this end of Jan. in such case will she have the support?
How aware is your client about the end of support of HPUX11 ? (End 2006)

Hi Victor,

The customer is aware of the end-of-support of HPUX 11. Her software is tried-and-tested on 11, and she does not want to risk running it on 11i.
