Newbie ORACLE Version Question

To All,

The HP-UX 11.00 systems I'm currently supporting are running ORACLE 8.1.7.2. I'm wondering, since ORACLE has released 10. something, when will ORACLE stop supporting 8.1.7? Any help in determining the answer or directions to where it might be published is greatly appreciated.

They have stopped supporting 8.1.7

Special support is still possible but by end of this year or 2006 support will cease.

Oracle 8i has been desupported on HPUX11.0 (ECS) last December 31st.

I think that 10G is not certified on HPUX11.0 (only 11i) therefore you would have to move to 9iR2

Hi Chuck,

8.1.7.4 is the latest release in 8i release product line. The followign are the desupport dates for 8.1.7.4

For strategic platforms it is 31-DEC-2006
For others it is 31-DEC-2005 (or earlier).

Error Correction Support (ECS) end date was 31-DEC-2004
Extended Support (ES) is 31-DEC-2007
Extended Maintenance Support (EMS) is 31-DEC-2006

Oracle 9i is a stable product. And many issues and bugs have been resolved in 9i. 8.1.7 desupport plan is now finalized. Now the latest release of oracle is Oracle 10g (64-bit) and it is certified only for 11i v2 (11.23) and 11i v1 (11.11) (64-bit).

HP-UX 11.0 (designated with VUF number B.11.00) will reach the end of its sales life and will be removed from the HP Price List on April 1st 2004. After that date HP-UX 11.0 will no longer be available on CD or via Instant Ignition.

After March 2004, the content of the 11.0 Application Release CDs will not change. HP plans to keep the HP-UX 11.0 Application CD kit available until March 31st,2005 for customers who still need to purchase HP-UX 11.0 versions of HP-UX layered products.

HP-UX 11.0 normal support life will run from April 1st,2004 until December 31st, 2006.

I just have some idea:
As far as I know, there are many diffirence between Oracle 8i (in general version) and Oracle 10. I have never used with Oracle 10 version just Oracle 9i.
But as I think (just my experience!) if I can choose Oracle version, I will choose Oracle 9i. Why? The simple answer is: Oracle 9i was veryfied ans used in many big company without any trouble. I just want a Well-known production and was used popular in the world.
In Oracle 9i and Oracle 10, the *Oracle TUNNING* was *Integrated* in but Oracle 8i don't have. That means,with oracle 9i and oracle 10, It reduces tunning actions for the database administrator.
And as I know, the most newest architecture that diffirence between oracle 8i and oracle 91, 10 is: The upgrade of OPS model!
With Oracle 8i, the OPS (Oracle Parallel Server) has new version: RAC! and for this model, Oracle can be run in a big enterprise system.....

Is there any idea?
