System Kernal Parameters.

How to know which are the fine tuned kernal parameters for my system. May be I have HP-L1000/3000 or HP N Class high end server, with oracle 8i may be I have 30 users or 100 users.

From where I can find the Kernal parameter tuning tips.

Hi Harpreet,

to check the current kernel parameters, try,

kmtune -S /stand/vmunix

Try this link on system performance tuning,

You can configure your kernel with the tuned kernel parameter set for OLTP/Database Server system. For this, try sam --> Kernel Configuration --> configurable kernel parameters --> Tab and select action --> Apply tuned kernel parameter set --> Select OLTP / Database server system.

Apply the parameter, rebuild the kernel and reboot the system.

hi,

The answer is -it depends. Monitor your system performance using glance/sar/vmstat/swapinfo. If you notice any bottlenecks - memory or CPU or disk or high paramater usage, use that as a guideline to modify kernel params.
