Error compiling kernel

I try to compile a kernel from SAM

It returned a config error

Cannot build a kernel using /usr/sbin/config. The standard output of
the command is shown below:

Stop.
config: make did an exit(1)

The command exitted with exitcode -71.

any idea?

did you try to install a patch ?
Did you install also all dependencies ?

i have installed HW and QPK march 2002 patches(11.0)

Hi:

Look for any unconfigured patches and if found, configure them.

# swlist -l fileset -a state|grep -v -i -e configured -e \#

If you find any patches that are not configured, do:

# swconfig PHXX_nnnnn

Hi,

Do you get any other error's like unsatisfied symbols in the swagent.log file.

Are you able to build a kernel from the command line ?

Just another thought !
Have you rebooted the system an extra time ?
Have seen similar problem where reboot helped out.

If you try to do a manual mk_kernel what does it give you as the error?
I.E.
% mk_kernel -o /tmp
NOTE: the -o /tmp is just a safety

I have had patches installed in the past which have corrupted the /usr/include directories, as well as some other things. I never took the time to call HP as it makes for down systems :^(

The manual mk_kernel command will tell you excactly what is bad, then more corrective actions can be taken.

In /usr/conf/h/errno.h errornumber 71 is "Too many levels of remote in path". Do you have any NFS-mounts that might contain libraries or other things mk_kernel wants?

I have on occasion had a problem with space in the /stand directory.

If you have more than two old copies of your kernel (from previous compiles) move them to another mount point (or delete them, then go into sam and recompile the kernel.
