Yes, you could export your non-system vg's and re-import (saving your map some where where you can get to it after the upgrade) them after going to 11i from 11.0. The limits will depend upon your system and your system resources.

I would perform an 11i install and not an upgrade.

lvm doc: http://docs.hp.com/en/6054/Limits_wp.htm

other 11i docs: http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11i.html

live free or die
harry d brown jr

Your whole concept of lvm and vxfs remains that same. You can re-use the same volumes on the new O/S. Like the prior posting says, you'll have to vgexport and then vgimport if you do an install rather than an upgrade.

You may also wish to upgrade the version of vxfs on your imported filesystems to version 4:

vxupgrade -n 4 /mountpoint

note however that once you have done this, you won't be able to mount them on a HP-UX 11.00 machine unless you install the JFS 3.3 bundle first.

Hi,

all file systems are already v4, most of
the patches are already installed, because we're using the online-jfs version... ;)

Ok, it#s nice to see, that a simple export/import would do the job, but can I create now a filesystem with 5 TB ?
(We have many AND large files for climate simulations ...).

A second question. Can I separte a logical
volume from a vg and put it into another (new) vg (online ?) ?
We have in the moment everything in one
single vg on one server, but I want to seperate a few lv and have 2 or 3 VG.

Bye, Peer
