As an adition to Patrick advise;

After 11i upgraded
"uname -a" must return like;
HP-UX $hostname B.11.11 U $model $number unlimited-user license
if you upgrated 11.00 to 11i sucessfully.

if you upgrated 11.00 to 11i v1
then it means;
B.11.11
if you see B.11.22
it means you are 11i V1.6
and if you see like
B.11.23
then you are again 11i but version is v2

Good luck,

Issues on the upgade:

1) The applications (3rd party). The more complex that is, the higher the failure risk. Oracle needs to be relinked. You'd be surprised how much sotftware is still not certified and will required you to upgrade or cold install after the OS upgrade. This creates pressure, which is not there if you cold install on new hardware and gradually migrate apps and data to 11i.

2) Problems with the 11.00 environment may be migrated into the 11i 11.11 environment. I'm with Harry on this one, as are many admins.

SEP

You can use the sw* commands to check just about everything it sounds like you want.

swlist will show everything that is installed. You can also add the '-l product' or '-l bundle' to see other view of what is installed.

If you just want patches 'swlist -l product | grep PH'.

'uname -a' will show the release you are running.
