Installing a new printer in HP-UX 10.20

Hi,

I am trying to install a new printer, HP 4650N into my HP-UX server, but I have no new drivers for it. Does someone know where can I download them? And, how should I install this printer? I usually do it with jetadmin or sam, but does someone know the exactly way to, first install the new driver and then install the printer perfectly? Thank you.

have you had a look at:

I would install the drivers first then the printer.

Cristian,
I am assumming you are either hooking the printer via a PC or have the Jetdirect enabled version, which would be connected directly via the network.
Can you please clarify which?

I have jetdirect enabled. Right now I've downloaded the driver, so I will try to install it with readme file instructions. I hope it will be easy. I'll keep you informed. Thank you for your help

Ups! I've downloaded HP 4650N firmware not driver!! mmm perhaps there is no driver for HP-UX systems? thank you.

I've installed JetDirect Printer Installer for UNIX Version E.10.34, but when I try to "Add printer to local spooler" I get this error:
ERROR: Printer configuration error
Could not find the printer configuration file
Please verify software installation
I've had no problems to install other printers with this tool. Any idea? Thank you in advanced

Cristian,
so you have installed the software and are trying to hook up the printer to the HPUX server via the network?
Have you shut down the spooler queue?
Have you created a printer configuration in the BOOTP/TFTP database (not 100% sure if required).
After starting up jetadmin and selecting
add printer to local spooler do you get:
Enter network printer name or IP address (q - quit)
Does the error message apear after this?

The answer is yes to all you questions, but BOOT/TFTP, which is not necessary for me. The strange thing is that I am able to configure my printer with "HP JetAdmin Utility for UNIX (Rev. D.05.15)" but I am not able to setup it with the new tool "JetDirect Printer Installer for UNIX
Version E.10.34". The worst it that I've downloaded hp4650n model script for HP-UX which is configurated to run in jetdirect tool, but not with jetadmin! I really don't know what to do, but I keep on trying

I'm afraid this is where my 'wisedom' ends.
Perhaps one of the specialists on this forum can help any further.
As a sideline, whilst looking for further clues I cam across:

Hi Peter,

finally I've configured the printer with jetadmin. It's not the same because I am not abl to print with color, but anyway, it covers what I rally want to do in HP-UX. I'll keep on trying until get a solution for it, but I am not going to do it right now. Thank you again for your help
