problem with informix connect .please help

hi all
i have database informix v 5.05 installed on OS HP-UX v 10.2
i want to connect to my database server from windows client through ODBC.

which application can do this operation?

i get informix connect software for windows from IBM site
but i can't configure environment on the server
there is file called (sqlhosts)
i can't find this file under $INFORMIXDIR/etc

please if any body tryed this operation before?
please descript it to me

As you have asked this question in treads 797523 and 796769 before, see answers given there.
You can use the command:
cd /
find / -name "*sqlhosts*"
to find your file on the server.

this file not fount in the server

can i create it?
and if it effective. what is the sequense to write service name ,host name,... into this file?

can you please clarify:
1. You are running Informix 5.05 on an 10.2 HPUX platform
2. Which windows application do you want to use to extract data from the Informix DB?
(Execl,Access...)
3. You have valid access to the machine and DB. i.e. you know what the server is called and the database?
For example:
Excel
Data -> Get External Data ->New Database Query ->New Data Source .....

Dear peter

my question is very clear!!

when you try to extract data from database running on unix through ODBC.

at first you must register this database in ODBC.

my question is how register database running on hp-ux environment in windows ODBC???

i get the informix driver from IBM website
this driver is (INFORMIX CONNECT)

i installed this driver in my PC (windows 2000).

now i want to register my database (running on hp-ux) in ODBC to extract data from it
(through execl.access.sqlserver,....)

i can't establish the connection with database. the following error apper

(can't locate service in etc/services)

can u help me in this problem??

sorry,I was just trying to get the problem clear in my own head.
I assume you have read:
http://publibfp.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/ct1ufna.pdf which describes setting up connections.
Also Ensure that the INFORMIXDIR is in your PATH on windows
That would be all I ever had to do to get OODBC to work.

but the information in this manual is not applies to my database version.
iam not lucky.

there is another software called (informix-net or informix-star).

i think that is i need.
