From what i can see, it talks about HP-Compaq merger. It's still a see-saw battle and turning out to be a grand sopopera where speculations abound.

Last I heard both sides had the lawyers lined up and were going to shoot it out, but I don't know which side is more likely to win. sounds like it's family vs. the rest.

I was watching a special edition abt this deal yesterday. The analysts says it will be a bad news if it doesn't happen. Now we will wait and see how the market reacts !

First the Hewlett family spoke out against the merger but took no action. Now the Packard family is speaking out against the merger and is taking action with their shares. If both the Hewlett and the Packard families act against the merger it will likely be halted. This would put both individual companies into interesting positions due to the fact that in preparation for the merger each side has aired all of their dirty laundry to the other and shown each other all that they have in the works on their engineering sides. I think that the merger would be good, especially if HP-UX gained Tru-Clustering. Well, hope this helps.

Compaq's stock dropped yesterday mainly because of rumors that Compaq execs were going to vote against the merger.

Hi,

In my humble opinion, I would think that HP internally should have decided on the merger decisively before even approaching Compaq.

That would have avoided washing bad lining in public.

I think Mark Vollmers has made a valid point - lawyers lined up on both sides, so whatever happens THEY will make a lot of money :-(

I thought the deal had already gone through, that was the impression given a couple of months ago.

Working for a shop that does both HP and Compaq channel, get a lot of different ideas...

The stockholders have not even voted yet and it does not look good for this deal to happen.

Carly will be out, Compaq will sell more Tandem computers, HP will sell more UNIX servers.

Personally, I thought it would be a good deal as there are still too many PC vendors. The merger would have brought togetherness.
