We have an HP-UX server. Can anybody tell me the following.

If any hardware fails, is there a log where it is written to?

Thanks

Usually, these will be in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log or /var/adm/messages (see dmesg) command.

If you've EMS installed.. it will email the root account in addition to the syslog entries and the Console messages.

For disk subsystems .. ie. SecurePath for EVA disk arrays.. it will have its own notification mechanism which could be via syslog, email or both.

In /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log and with EMS, you can view hardware events with /opt/resmon/bin/resdata

Rgds...Geoff

You can check your hardware with the command :

# ioscan -fn
to see if you have any "UNCLAIMED" or "NO_HW"
device but to make a continuous survey /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log and EMS are the better tools.

Stf ;-)

Hi Mark,

Also all HW faults are logged in the SP/GSP/MP (Depending on model). These and their service logs (SL) are accessible only from a console port so have the advantage of accessability even when the system is not up & running. As long as there's power to the system you can get to these logs.

Rgds,
Jeff
