Henry,

I had the same problem with a K580 a while back. It turned out to be the version of core os I was using. If you are attemping to boot from the 1996 core os, chances are, it is not recognizing the newer hardware. Try booting from the 1999 build of the core os.

Hope this helps.

...jcd...

Hi,

I am trying to install HPUX 10.20 on a K580 server that came with 11i preinstalled.

When I boot from the 10.20 media all goes well until the "Scan system for I/O devices". After about 3 minutes of inactivity the system comes up with the message:
"I/O hardware probe timed out at path 8/0.0".
I have left the system for over 1 hour in this state before I gave up and restarted. The preinstalled 11i works fine but I need to put 10.20 on the system for development purposes.

8/0.0 is the FW SCSI on the HSC Expansion I/O card (and yes I have tried it with & without a terminator). There are no devices currently attached to this SCSI.

Thanks in Advance
Henry Goverde

What happens if you take the card out and try to boot. It could be bad, or the terminator may be bad...

K580 should be ok with 10.20

GL,
C

Hi,

This may be the problem of a bad hardware (FW SCSI Card). Remove this and try again. Also r u using the right boot media ? Check whether your media was released after the system model was first introduced.

See this:
http://us-support2.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/sid=7913f7770346d084f3/screen=ckiDisplayDocument?docId=200000050004356

HTH,
Shiju
Hi Henry,

You can run offline diagnostics to find if the card is really bad.

1. Boot the system through the latest support CD.
2. Interact with ISL
3. At the ISL prompt

ISL> ode
ISL> mapper

Check if the card is listed. If not, take out the card and then install the system.

-Sri

Joseph makes the best point so far, IMO, what is the date of your core OS? And you should be using the most recent patch bundle also!

live free or die
harry
