We currently run a program called syncsort on MPRAS Unix on an NCR. Shortly we will be moving to the HP environment and we want to know if anyone has had good or bad experiences with syncsort on this platform.

TIA

Bruce White

Hi:

I think you are going to find that Syncsort is Syncsort independent of UNIX platform. We do not use it in my prersent company but in my former company the COBOL guys loved it both in HP-UX 10.20 & 11.0.

I ran syncsort on about 40 remote jukeboxes with two local master managers. There were two things we noticed:

1. It is very picky when it comes to DNS, 90% of our job failures were due to a DNS problem.
2. The master managers could only hold so many nodes before they started failing jobs.

Other than that we were very pleased, the GUI was very intuitive and for the most part setting up the jobs, classes, etc.. was quite easy.

Hope this helps.

Craig

I've had to make filesystems HFS for syncsort to properly work under 10.20. I haven't tried it in an 11.x environment.

live free or die

harry
