gpm is the GUI version of Glance and thus needs and X server running on your PC/workstation. It has some nice additonal bells and whistles, much easier to get around and much much better on-line help. The downside is that it takes up more resources on the machines.

-Santosh

Hi Richard:

You need to set and export your DISPLAY variable before executing gpm.

Something like this:

export DISPLAY=mypc:0.0 if using POSIX sh
you can also
DISPLAY=192.3.1.2:0.0
export DISPLAY

then
gpm (or gpm & if you like); I assume that you already have the Reflection X server up and running at this point.

Clay

Richard,

Graphical version of Glance is gpm.

Try gpm than glance if you have X-windows. It's a nice colourful GUI interface bit slower. I personally like it than gpm (Doesn't mean I am a fan of Microsoft).

-Sri

An alternative to Reflection X is eXceed from Hummingbird. They're both fairly expensive though, around $500/PC. Another alternative is to set up X on a Linux box...much cheaper solution, but you'd have to switch from the Evil Empire's OS. :-)

-Santosh

Hi Richard,

glance is a character mode version while gpm is a glance plus motif (motif based). Since glance is character mode, there are certain limitations to the output displayed. gpm has more metrics and better help.

TO resolve your issue, just export your DISPLAY
export DISPLAY=IP:0.0

Here is a good doc on using glance
http://h21007.www2.hp.com/dspp/files/unprotected/UsingGlance.pdf

this talks about differences between glance and gpm as well.

Another doc of help is "Making your GlancePlus Pak perform"
http://h21007.www2.hp.com/dspp/files/unprotected/PakPerform.pdf

-HTH
Ramesh
