Hi Sue,

What alex says is right. If your printer is unable to correct the loss of network conection, it will restart the printing from the begining.

This restart from the begining is set into the printer onfiguration. If you are using JetAdmin proceed like this

Sam -- > Printers and plotters --> LP spooler --> Printers and plotters --> Selct Action --> Add Network Printer --> Add Printer / plotter connected to HP Jetdirect --> Modify existing Spooler queue(s) --> Select the name of the printer from the list --> Change Job Recovery to off --> Save and exit.

Next time, the print job will start from where it left. You may miss some of the printing if there is a loss of packets. You can give it a try and see how it woks out.

Hope this helps.

thanks
Hello,

I have a very strange problem and I'm trying to rule out the hp-ux lp spooler as the problem. I'm running 10.20 and have many network printers, most w/ JetDirect cards. Occasionally, some of our large print jobs will stop either in the middle or towards the end of the print job and then restart printing back at the beginning. Again, I'm trying to rule out the lp spooler as being the problem. Has anyone seen this problem before? Sue

Hi there.
Yes, we face the same problem from time to time.
If the load on the network is very high, you may have package losses. Check this with the ping utility. You will see a long response time and the packages not in the right order.
If the LAN card in the printer is not able to correct this, it will restart printing.
That is, what we foudn out togehther with HP support.
Rgds
Alexander M.
