OK that's definitely the Xsever and CDE's the default window manager for hpux 11.xx. So it sounds as if CDE has the problem but not X !

How longs has this been occuring ? what changed ?

How do you resolve your hostname - /etc/hosts or DNS ?

Can you check in /var/dt/Xerrors and also /etc/rc.log, syslog.log for clues and also run dr_dt and correct any warnings or errors !

Hello,

is it really "halted", i.e. your are not able
to telnet in or to ping it?
Then try booting "single-user mode", do an
"mount -a", and read the "/etc/rc.log"

Or is it just a (more gray) graphics screen?
Then perhaps your own station's address is
missing in the "/etc/dt/config/Xservers" (or
the "/usr/dt/config/Xservers").

HTH,
Wodisch

White screen .... sounds like the Xserver if it is more grey and mesh-like in appearance, do you see the cross hairs / mouse cursor ? ps -ef | grep X ?

If the Xservers starting sounds like your window manager has problems ..... what is it ? CDE ? O/S 11.00 ?

What's the H/W involved and has it ever worked, if so what changed ?

My guess is CDE may be having problems resolving your correct hostname but it maybe something else :

if using CDE run dr_dt and check in /var/dt/Xerrors for clues.
