Hi all,

I want to restore all of files from my 150MB QIC tape, when performed backup it takes 2 tape.
Now, when I am doing restore files from tape #1, showing error messages "directory checksum error". I realized that it's tape problem because no error messages when i tried another tape. could someone help me how can i restore from tape #2 if tape #1 fail ?
Let you know that i use 'tar' command to backup.
thanks for your help.

Are you attempting to restore your "tar" backup from another non-HP system? If so, then you need to look at the "blocking factor" in tar, wherein HP defaults to 20 blocks.

If tape #1 is bad, you will not be able to restore tape #2. You could look into GNU's tar, but I'm not sure this will help you.

Hello,

did you create your 2 tape backup set with a single "tar"
command? So tape #2 is the "continued" tape?

Then you will have to "tar tv" the first type to its very
end, then exchange tapes and continue with tape #2.

You cannot start with tape #2!

HTH,
Wodisch
