topic ping not working !! in Operating System - HP-UX

ping not working !!

I am not able to ping to a machine ip address 10.9.20.98
It says no route to host

Can any body help me

Hi ...

cd /sbin/rc2.d
./*net start
try ping now ..... get back to me with the results

Great .... Why does it happen , do i hv to do it again when i reboot ?.

Hi akash,

It seems that :

1. Somebody had remove the
# net start
from your boot process ( Level 2 : multi-users)or.

2. Somebody had stop it explicitly.

could be a mistake or done within a blind script.

hi ,

i do not know why does it happen ?. May be while bootup the system was not detecting a cable , or as my college said it may be a bad script.

Any file which u can see in /sbin/rc2.d which start with S* they all are started while the system goes from run-level 1 to 2 so S*net is the script for starting up your network services. You may go through the System Administration tasks manual for more informations or goto docs.hp.com.

I hv faced this problem 2-3 times i could never get a proper solution for this . And it does not happen every time i start the machine.
