Are you sure that you were active on the SWC? You can log into the SWC, but if someone does not have the console portion active, there will be no activity shown on the console. i.e. click in the area and hit enter...

Had a problem on reboot of server. Had a secure web console connected to a K-Class, and noted that during the scheduled shutdown, no messages displayed to the console.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like the scheduled reboot ran the 'reboot' command. This odes not run the scripts in /sbin/init.d

We noticed the same thing happen earlier. Since we have to shutdown Oracle databases during a reboot, we use the command:
/usr/sbin/shutdown -y -r
This will run the shutdown scripts and restart the server. You can add the word 'now' to the end of the command line if you want to avaid the 60 second delay.

To answer each of you:

1 - The shutdown was executed by a 'shutdown -h -y 0'. I was at my desk logged into the web console. The only message I received was the 'System Halted' message. I went into the data center and fired the server back up. Did not see ANY messages concerning startup. I opened up a telnet window on another server and did a ping to the server in question, and all of a sudden it started answering the ping.

2 - I was active on the Web Console. I also rebooted this server a 2nd time and plugged in a standard console and still did not receive any messages.

That shouldn't be happening at all then. If your physical console is doing the same thing, there is possibly something wrong with your system board. Do you have a service contract to get HP in to look at it? That is what I would do...
