As far as I recall we did delete the printer from UNIx and added it back using JETADMIN. But we will try it again.

We also had our network guy send the printer the latest firmware file.

Still not working.

Lets see if deleting it and adding it back will do the trick.

This printer is controlled ny Jet Admin. When you send a Word or Excel document it works just fine.

Does anyone have any ideas??

We checked and th edefault number of copies is set to 1.

I don't know if this is much help, but when we had this problem, It was internal to our printer. Unfortunately it was too long ago to remember. Sorry, but I would check the printer.

Hope this helps

Chris

It sounds like the printer keeps spawning the print job over and over. Can you look and see if it finishes the one and starts a new process or just keeps rehashing the one (maybe look at the ps -ef list, see if a billion print jobs show up. Just a thought.

Mark

Okay. We sent a one page test print to the remote printer. 30 minutes later th eremote user called and said that the porinter was exhausted of all the paper in the tray. Th esame page printed over and over with the same id number. Once he saw that it printed about 200 copies he aborted the job and reset the printer.

We still; have not resolved the problem.

Are all of the drivers and everything current? The fact that the print job had the same id but printed over and over sounds like the printer was not finishing the job but kept resending it. Can you try to link up another printer to the server and try it. Also, try to network the bad printer to another computer. That may help to isolate which side has the problem.

Mark

Stuart, I've had similar problems with a variety of printers attached to the network w/ jetdirect cards. What appears to happen is that the timeout parameters on the problem printer seem to get "forgotten", and the printer sends a signal back indicating the job failed so unix resends the same job. try resetting the various timeouts to "*disabled*" on the printer.

HI
Try this.
Use jetadmin ->1. configure Printer -> 5. Modify existing spooler queue -> enter "printer-queue-in-question" ->4. Additional printer changes . -> 2. True End-of-job (Set this value to off). ->q ->0 to configure.

This had fixed me similar kind of problem some time back.
Good luck.
Prashant.

Hello Stuart,

Scott has a great point. Take the printer offline, and do a "Print Configuration". That should print a page or two with every setting for the printer. As for changing the values, you'll probably need a manual for the printer to see exactly how to do it, but you should be able to navigate through the menu on the panel to change it. Also, lots of these newer printers have Web interfaces. You might try that and see if you can access it that way.

JP
