Hi,

This problem is about NFS ,and I faced it last year . and there is a solution in the KB ( I don't remember it clearly , maybe you can search with " netscape mail nfs" in the KB )

The solution is:

1.close Netscape
2. cd ~/.netscape
add :
user_pref("editor.dont_lock_spell_files",true);
to the file : preferences.js

B. Or Globally disable the spell checker by renaming the
Communicator spell directory.

For example: mv spell spell.old

Frank.

Hi

I faced more or less same problem in netscape. Whenever I click compose, reply...etc it used to hang. My problem was NFS related. In the NFS server BOX, NFS server service was disabled. I enabled thru SAM and this could solve the problem.

So I suggest U to check up NFS related settings like /etc/exports, /etc/rc.config.d/nfsconf, /etc/auto.direct...etc.

Best of luck

Shahul

Hello Rizwan,

time-outs of the length you described are usually
caused by a misconfigured DNS resolver or a broken
DNS server...

Check your config files:
/etc/nsswitch.conf
/etc/resolv.conf

The other chance would be NFS - ty to move your
sub-dir ".netscape" to a local disk, and point your
".etscape" to it being a symbol-link, then.

HTH,
Wodisch

Hi,

If U are connecting to the internet through proxies then edit the options and set the correct proxy server address.

Also U set the starting home page to
about:blank .Then it should not hang..

Also check out

/etc/resolv.conf if U are connecting directly to the internet and U have a DNS server connected to the internet.

Also if U are opening Netscape from say
"user1" then

# cd ~user1

# mv .netscape .netsprob

Then try invoking..it should work fine

Hope this helps

Sundar
