topic Web Jet Admin in Operating System - HP-UX

Hi all,

I am trying to network some printers, for those that use the HP system to schedule print jobs. I have installed Web JetAdmin to help me do this. Only I have realised it is a monitoring tool. Is there something I am missing about this tool or have I gone the wrong way about trying to network these printers.

Thanks in advance

Maria

Hi,

Web JetAdmin is indeed mainly a monitoring tool, and BTW a quite heavy sytem process :(
You can however start the background processes when you need Web JetAdmin, and stop it afterwards (you will not have any continuous background checking though).
For installing network printers you'll need HP Print Installer (the replacement of HP JetDirect which will become obsolete)

regards,
Thierry.

Hello,

HP Web Jetadmin is a printer monitoring AND configuration tool. It can broadcast over a network to automatically discover network printers. Moreover, you can add modules to HP Web Jetadmin to configure a local or remote machine to spool print jobs. Supported platforms are HP-UX, Windows NT, Windows 2K, Linux, Solaris. For all these platforms, you can download and install the appropriate module that can recognize the platform-specific spooler options.

The URL is :

http://www.hp.com/pond/wja/live/manual/html/wjacomp_ux11.html

To install a module, I don't remember the exact procedure, but connect to your HP Web Jetadmin server (http://<HOST>:8000), then go browse the configuration menus.

To summarize : after HP Web Jetadmin installed on your system, your are able to configure local or remote printers for the spoolers of that platform (ex: HP-UX). To be able to configure printers for other platforms, download the relevant module from the URL above, then install it using the HP Web Jetadmin menu.

Good luck.

Kodjo

P.S. Don't forget to rate this answer (from 1 to 10).

</HOST>

Hi mpaschli,

Well for myself, I have little love for Web Jet Admin. It seems a waste...now I hope I have not offended those folks who may like it, but it seems to be a 'big to do about nothing'.
This past week there was a sturdy voice 'way to go Clay Stephenson' for return the reliable graphics Jet Admin! Hope HP was listening !!

By the way here's a thread that shows you where you can get the download for JetAdmin (no web involved)....and if 10.2 isn't there anymore - just email me ( rworkman@wvbep.org ) and I'll be happy to either email or put it out on my FTP server so you can go and grab it for yourself !!

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x31ebf9beca68d511abcd0090277a778c,00.html

Regards,
Rita
