Hi,

Well here is a link which helps you in configuring a web console

http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/otsearch/getfile?id=/hpux/onlinedocs/hw/lclass/content/00/04/1R/idd/26.html&searchterms=configuring%7cweb%7cconsole&queryid=20010829-091040

But i still prefer using the lan console to web console, cause it is more secure and definitely much faster.

-HTH
Ramesh

Has anyone been successful in configuring the Web Console on the remote port of an L-class?
We currently unplug the hardwired console to plug the web console in, but this is tedious and there is always a potential for accidently knocking a power connector or two out of the power strips when this is being done.
If anyone has been successful, could you let me know how you did it.

Many thanks.
The remote port is most likely a modem type port. The secure web console will work only on serial type ports, like the console port. I would imagine you could possibly get a cable to convert the remote console port to a normal serial port.

My question is why would you connect/disconnect the secure web console and a physical console?

The reasons for the disconnection and reconnection of Web server console and the hardwired console is that we have had several network problems recently not allowing us to connect to the web console and having to use the normal console next to the server.
In my experience, having a spare console to plug in at any time has been a life saver (network gone down so no access to web console). It would be foolish of me if we didnt have a normal console sat at the side of the server just incase something went wrong with connectivity to the web console.

Hi,

Like i said, if you use a lan console, you can still use the default console port to connect to the physical console.

But you would need to configure the LC in the GSP, i am attaching a document which might help. Again lan console definitely is faster then the web console.

-HTH
Ramesh

I had to do the same thing twice this year when two separate hubs went down, and I couldn't use the network, which made my web console useless. I asked an HP CE, and he told me it couldn't be done...maybe he just wanted to not deal with it.

I then questioned why I was using the web console. There are no advantages to our company because we are physically close to our L1000.

However, there are several disadvantages, including the problem with needing a network connection. The web console is slower, more difficult to read and soemtimes I would have weird connnectivity problems.

Based on these points I just use the attached terminal console and I don't miss the web console at all.

I read through the various replies, and I have one to add.

We have 25-30 servers and ran out of space for local consoles. We then went to web consoles, and can use the console from either our desktops in the adjacent room, operations area, or from a PC in the computer room.

In addition, due to the need sometimes to have a "real" console, be it for better response or just ease of use, I set up an old tape trolly with a console and cords.
Bother 25 pin-25pin as well as 9pin-25pin and electric cords for both the electric strips found in HP cabinets and wall outlets. I use power from a free outlet, and the
seriel cable needed.

I do have one machine in a DMZ, and that machine has a web console, but on a A/B box, when not in use, it is disconnected.
