deleted directories under 'var'

Hi Guys,

This is not good but happened ! I deleted the directories under /var directories. I have copied few files back but it still failes with Kernel settings.

Can I recover the files and directories under /var or rebuild them.

PS : i used rm -r * from within /var

Hi,

There is no other recovery then a backup tape or an Ignite tape.

Since all the sw is under var, you will have problems with almost everything on your system.

Suggest you get your backup tape(s) out. You will need to recover the whole filesystem from scratch, as you will not have a possibly of what has been removed.

Only and failproof soultion is to restore /var from your backup.
