topic gnu screen cannot find terminfo entry in Operating System - HP-UX

I just cannot get this to work!

I downloaded screen-3.9.15 as a precompiled binary and installed it. Install went OK, got a warning that suid set failed, fixed that. But when I run screen I get:
robe-dem@burk$ screen
Cannot find terminfo entry for 'xterm'.
I am running this:
robe-dem@burk$ uname -a
HP-UX burk B.11.11 U 9000/800 1522766517 unlimited-user license

I have tried setting TERMCAP and TERMINFO in various ways but no go. Has anybody else experienced this, or do I really need to install gcc, gmake et.al. and compile from source in order to get screen to work?

//robert
