      <description>Hi&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I would try with another tape before changing the drive. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Have you cleaned the drive ? check the cleaning light isn't flashing.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Can you read from a tape that has a previous fbackup ?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;frecover -V `tty` &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;This will get the header information from the tape. If fbackup doesn't see a valid header when trying to backup it will attempt to write one.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;And as suggested try and tar some data to the tape&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;tar -cvf test.out /tmp/&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;HTH&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Steve</description>
