Can anyone let me know how to mirror the whole system HD to a New HD and then boot from the new HD?

Mala,

You have to purchase an Hpux mirroring license.

BUT, you can NOT mirror an entire disk, you can ONLY mirror Logical Volume by Logical Volume (lv by lv).

You can shut your system down and install an OS on that other disk, and even restore files from a backup to it making it look similar to the other boot disk(s).

How experienced would you say your unix skills are, and your hpux skills??

Beside what Harry has mentioned, (purchasing MirrorDisk/UX) for HPUX.

You need to know how many disks make up your /dev/vg00 group

If you don't know you'd better start having a close look at how 'SAM' can help you and the on-line documentation that can be found here on the subject.

I've got a similar situation. We have a static HP-RT system that only uses one of two hard drives. I have cloned the in-use drive (SCSI 6)to the unused one (SCSI 5)and now have a ready back-up. I've used the following commands to accomplish the clone:

Boot in single user mode
# mkfs /dev/rsd5 (
# dd if=/usr/lib/rtbootlf of=/dev/rsd5 bs=2k
# dd if=/dev/rsd6 of=/dev/rsd5 bs=4096 count=524488
# sync;sync

I'm only using one 2Gb partition of a 9Gb drive. You will probably need to change the record count to accomodate your disk configuration. May also need to run fsck on the cloned disk before using it. Once I've finished the cloning I'm able to halt the boot process and boot from SCSI5. I'm sure this isn't the exact solution to your problem but it's an option.

If I anderstand, you need a full copy of your disk.
By the past we used mkboot and "dd".
