Informix Error : oninit

Hi,
When I try to start Informix database on my
HP-UX server it gives me error

#oninit

oninit: Cannot open
chunk '/informix/rootdbs.dbf'. errno = 2

oninit: Fatal error in shared memory initialization

What could be the possible reason for the same, I did touch and all those things but it still did'nt started.

Hi,

what is the output of

ls -ld /informix
ls -l /informix/rootdbs.dbf
file /informix/rootdbs.dbf

and if /informix/rootdbs.dbf
is a symlibk to a raw-device

ls -l #linktarget#

if linktraget is a logical volume.

lvdisplay -v #linktarget-block-device#

Hi,

Set all informix environment variable.
Check ROOTPATH in onconfig. Check the owner:group of that path's file and directory and also check whether proper linked has been done.

In any way if you can give what exactly you have done then it would be better to go towards solution.

No rootdbs... but did the fixes work????

Hi,
Amit did you set the necessary kernel parameters properly. Looks like you have not set the required kernel parameters for Inormix installation.

If it is refering to hp-ux error code -2
It means no such file is present.

Does file informix/rootdbs.dbf exist?
If yes, does it have appropriate perms?
