Depending on the pack you have. To my knowledge 11 come in 4 types of pascks Base, Enterprice, Mission Crit and something i can't remember. Theese packes only take one reboot.
The times you need to reboot is very importen especialy when you need to install a K class, since that is the slowest ?? hour to reboot.
If you have the opertunity and you need to install more than one, then use ignite - easy to install (some times) and easy to use.

BR,
Jannik

Hi, Kevin.

First of all, you should give us some info about the machine you're cold installing if you want to know what drivers to install...

*BUT* in my case, I had to cold install several K370s with HPUX 11.i and it took about 6-7 hours to fully complete:

1.- OS installation.
2.- IgniteUX install (just client config.)
3.- Omniback II 4.10 install & config.
4.- MirrorDiskUX installation, reboot & mirror creation.

Afterwards, we installed & configured Oracle 8i, which took about 5 hours including the creation of an Ignite tape afterwards.

Hope this helps you.

Hi

I would allow yourself at least 1 day for installing the o/s and setting up file systems etc. Generally installing just the o/s is around 3/4 hours.

How long it will take over all depends on your machine spec and how much additional software you are installing, ie jfs, mirror-dsisk, omniback, oracle etc.

Err on the side of caution.

Cheers
Keely

Hi again

What sort of devices do you need the drivers for?

For most common types of disk, tape drives, lan cards etc., the kernel will generally select and bind the most appropriate ones for you automatically.

Once your system is up and running, check with ioscan to see if anything is left unclaimed. If so, you will then have to add these in manually.

HTH

Keely

I usually give myself three days:

(1) One-two hour(s) to install OS - depends if you just sit there and watch it and have the IP, netmask, hostname, gateway, dns, ...

(2) four-eight hours installing other pieces of software, like a db, compilers, ...

(3) four-six hours using custom-patch manager, which I deem importaqnt after I've installed application products, so that it may pick up patches that aare needed.

(4) two-three hours creating documentation, which should include a visio like document, filesystem layouts, software installed, patches, ...

(5) one-two hours creating user accounts

live free or die
harry

Kevin,

I don't know if anyone has answered your device driver question. When unsure about the device drivers needed, I look at the back of my system to see what cards are installed (Fibre, Network, etc.) then get the number of those cards (A6675JA), then find the appropriate driver for those cards during the install. Caution: Some cards require a firmware update, prior to software install.

Andy
