Hi,

If you really want to improve your accessibility to your resaure process, you may think about another tool else than ( fbackup, frecover ).

For example : HP OpenView OmniBack II ( It's integrated DB will ganna index the position of your file on tape using the DB catalog , and the restaure process will be really very quicly).

Hope this could help.

Magdi

Hi, all

I am using DLT Auto-loader to backup the
system.

The backup system we use is fbackup command.
and we use frecover to restore file from
DLT tape to server.

I found that when we need to restore a file
from the middle position of the DLT tape, it
need much time to search the file and restore.

Can someone advice me how to clear this
problem? Is there a solution?

Chen

I don't think there is much you can do to improve the performance of frecvoer. With a DLT, depending on how much data you have, and how many files are stored, there is a lot of data for it to go through to get to your file and that is a fairly slow operation.

Hi,

Much to my surprise, there is a parameter in the config file (for 11x versions) which will improve DLT selective restores. Man fbackup
and search for 'checkpointfreq'. Since you have existing archives make sure that you also look at the 'WARNINGS' section. You probably need 2 config files until you cycle through your existing archives. It probably also makes sense to use the -I option for on-line indexes.

Having said that, if you want really good selective restores with full automation, I suggest that you take a look at OmniBack. A lot can be said for point, click, restore - all from your desk and usually in only minutes.

Regards, Clay

Hi

I don't think U can do something for this.
If U have divided as different filesets, then U can go to particular fileset by using mt fsf command.

Shahul
