Hi all,
I have a HPUX 11.00 . I installed sendmail 8.9.3 on it. There is no problem in UNIX machine sending and receiving e-mails.
I try to carry this activity to Win 2000/NT clients.
I used IE 5.0 and Outlook express on clients.
What I did is as follows.
From Outlook express, tools and accounts.
I define a new mail account.
I defined My incoming mail server as IMAP,
Incoming mail server and outgoing mail server as abc.com (e.g.) .
I gave Unix account and password which is previously defined on UNIX. It creates account succesfully. But I neither send nor receieve e-mail. It gave "rely denied".
What might the situation? Is there any way to define clients to carry e-amils from UNIX machine to client itself.
Thanks for all replies.
Kind regards.
Hakan.

Maybe you disable the relay feature ,

1. grep ^FR sendmail.cf
to find the relay-domain file name(normaly is /etc/mail/relay-domains)
2. edit the relay file name to add the domain-name of your computer.

for more info , see :

www.sendmail.org/tips/relaying.html

Hi,
There is no relay-domains file in /etc/mail or any other place. What it looks like?
And is client configuration correct?
Do I need any service on HPUX for IMAP?
Thanks.

If you want to provide the IMAP service to mail client , Surely you should have imap daemon runing in the HP box. like the following line in the /etc/inetd.conf file ( or running seperately ).

imap stream tcp nowait root /opt/imapd/imapd imapd

you can download the imap for hp from the hpux.cs.utah.edu

Frank.

Hi,
Sendmail 8.9 has "Denied SMTP relay" as default.
Modify "sendmail.cf" to allow relay FEATURE. See reference to files: LocalIP, LocalNames (in Anti-spamming section);
files which contains access control.
Visit "sendmail.org" for more info.
Hope this clears it.
/Rolf
