Timezone setting

During installation of K-servers in Singapore and UAE, the time zone setting was done as usual (select Area-Country).
For S'Pore this resulted in a TZ variable=SST-7. The difference between local and UTC is, however, 8 hours.
I cannot explain the timezone SST. I've found it in one of the timezone files (lib) but not in the tztab table.
The customer requested a change to SGT-8 to align with other systems. I cannot find SGT on the HP (UX 10.2).
I've found a reference for SGT in a generic timezone document.
I've been reading a lot of forum topics and man pages but I've lost track.
Can somebody help me?

Found this in the /usr/lib/tztab file:

# Pacific Standard Time, Pacific Daylight Time (for Malaysia or Singapore)
#
PST-8PDT
0 1 1-7 4 1996-2038 0 PDT-9
0 1 25-31 10 1996-2038 0 PST-8

so try setting TZ=PST-8PDT

I found the Singapore reference Jim mentioned in the tztab on my 11.0 box, but I didn't find it on my 10.20 box. You might need to take the tztab entry that Jim had in his post and insert it into your tztab file so that it will behave correctly.

Hi,

We came across similiar problem before for our servers located in Singapore. At that time we were being told to choose (from within the set_parms program)

Asia -> Unlisted

at the time zone prompt enter "SST-8".

The default time zone variable setting for "Singapore" seem to be wrong, and would lead you to "SST-7" instead.

Many thanks for the replies.
I wanted to solve the issue also using the unlisted timezone option.
The customer, however, requested the SGT-8 entry telling me that this was OK on other boxes.
I will try to find out the behaviour (and the manufacturer) of the other boxes.
