missing mail-server

Pls help me with the following:
I have received a lot of messages from my cron-scripts via mail /I decided not to use
>log or >/dev/null in cron/. From some reason
I have stopped to receive these mails. Instead of this I have received a lot of
new rows in file: /var/tmp/dead.letters:

May be it is because of missing mail-server.
I'm trying to start sendmail via /sbin/init.d/sendmail, but it not started,
without messages.
I'm trying to start sendmail via /usr/sbin/sendmail and the result is:
"Recipient names must be specified"

So where is the problem?

Can you ping the above hosts ? add the hosts to the /etc/hosts file or dns if you use it.
