Thanks Steven,

The xfs option is 1, but I don't have any Berkeley "r" services set up for this machine.

As a note, I don't have any problems using Exceed with dtlogin, just the GNOME login manager.

I think I'm going to give up on this for now, but thanks for looking at it guys.

Gus

Hi,
I installed GNOME yesterday from the HP software depot (B6852BA+B6848BA-r2). Most everything works fine at the console, but I am unable to connect via Exceed (v8.0) as I had before under CDE. I searched on several threads in this forum and have done everything suggested ("Enable=true" in XDMCP part of gdm.conf, putting "0=/usr/bin/X11/X -fp tcp/:7000 -query <J5600_HOSTNAME>", etc.), and now I would like to try applying the gdm-2.2.2.1.5.tar patch, but I don't know how. Untarring the file doesn't give the normal depot I am familiar with.

So, how do I apply this patch? Or is there something else I should try?

Thanks,
Gus</J5600_HOSTNAME>

I'd be surprised if the patch would install or fix the problem : HP has dropped support of gnome, the last available release being 1.4 ... the patch you refer to appears to be gnome 2.2
saying that I don't know where it came from so :

I'd suggest enabling Exceed's debug functions or it's log file for clues ... also see http://ximian.com/hpux-updates.html the download is in sdux depot format

Strange...when I hover the mouse over the link you provided, it shows the filename as gdm-2.2.2.1.5.depot, but when I save it, the filename says it's a ".tar" file. Changing the filename from .tar to .depot seems to work.

But, as you predicted, installing the patch did not help. Oh well.

Thanks,
Gus

Back in the days where HP was unofficially indicating that GNOME was going to be the standard, I upgraded and got my servers working on it.

In the file /etc/rc.config.d/desktop
Change DESKTOP=CDE
to
DESKTOP=GNOME

in /etc/rc.config.d/xfs

Make sure the font server activation variable is 1.

Check that inetd.conf does have the Berkely r protocols because exceed 8 needs then to connect. Exceed 9 plus an add in tool can connect via ssh.

Save reboot.

Now it should work.

Just because HP doesn't support it, doesn't mean it won't work.

My opinion.

Gnome 1.4 user.

SEP
