Changing Machine ID

We have a customer out in Malaysia who has just had a C110 die. To fix it the HP engineer replaced the motherboard (for the second time) and the IO board. Obviously the MAC address has changed and so has the machine ID. (I mean the 10 digit number that comes up when you do a uname -a)

We have software keyed to the machine ID and we're having problems getting new codes due to the age of the machine. I read somewhere that you can change the machine ID without putting in the old MAC chip. Is this true and, if so, how do you do this?

The box is a C110 running 9.05

You can set the mac address for any lan card in /etc/rc.config.d/hpetherconf
edit this file and put in the mac address you want, reboot, and you should be done.

You have to contact HP to change the mac address back to the value the first board had. The HP engineer should have done this after the replacement of the board.

The address which you can change in the /etc/rc.config.d/hpetherconf (if you are using HP-UX 10.x or 11.x) would be of no use for you. Since most software check the real mac address and not the one set by the system.

An HP CE will have to come and run a tool called 'SSCONFIG' to fix the problem.

Hi,

The id which you are talking about is
not the Ehternet MAC address
It is CPU-ID,
Once You replace CPU (processor)
the Id also will change.

You need to contact HP to solve this
problem.
