/etc/services truncated

Hi

I did a little bit of experimentation on my 11.11 box. In single user I started the network by issuing :

/sbin/init.d/net_init start
/sbin/init.d/net start

After this at some point I found that /etc/services was truncated. Ok, no prob, I thought, probably done something wrong and restored it.

However, later after some more fooling around, I found that /etc/services was again truncated.

Any idea how this could have happened? Im positive I didnt do this directly myself.

Make certain that any changes that you've made in /etc/rc.config.d are correct. On what line is /etc/services getting truncated?

Tore that is very strange. Do this:

rename the /etc/services file to /etc/services_badone using "mv", do not use cp:

mv /etc/services /etc/services_badone

then restore /etc/services

then see what happens. It could be that you have a bad disk? Or someone messing with your head!

David : I havent done any changes to rc.config.. services is truncated to zero length.

Harry : bad disk? restore is no prob.

I suspect that there is some command, or some operation I have done in single user which have sideeffected by truncating services(but why did it happen twice?), although I realize this sounds very unlikely.
