If using DNS, need to make sure that you can nslookup both the hostname and IP.

Congrats on getting UX 11 to fit on a 2G drive, probably not much left for user space. I had to use a 4G drive.

I try to login in the CDE login window , type in username & password then after 1 minute (black screen) I receive again the CDE login window. What can I do further?

CDE is picky about name resolution. This may be the issue.

There is a script you can run that will provide some clues as to what is happening. In the /usr/contrib/bin/X11 directory is a file called dr_dt. Run this executable and see if there are any errors/warnings.

To login to the system you can select a Fail-Safe session of CDE that will at least give you a window to work with.

Hi,

I had some warnings running dr_dt

- / directory not properly configured
drwxr-xr-x root/root
need to be
dr-xr-xr-x root/sys

- same for /usr/spool

- /usr/dt/bin/xmbind not found
- /usr/dt/bin/suid_exec
For the 2 binaries I should either re-install CDE or copy them from another machine - I have search on another machine and I couldn't find them there!

I don't use DNS, I have configured only my IP address and the default GW.

Those files you mentioned I have the same issue with as well. Typically (in my experience) they do not exist. Do check the directory perms though as I have seen this become an issue. Change to what it specifies and re-run dr_dt. My last time I did this it gave the perms warnings, I changed them, run dr_dt and get perm warnings again, change them, and then it started working.

Do make sure that the /etc/hosts name for the system is correct.

fyi those missing files and the error reported by dr_dt *should* be resolved if you install the latest CDE patch ,

extract from PHSS_27427 :

11. Running the utility dr_dt from the command prompt, checks for /usr/dt/bin/xmbind & suid_exec and generates warning messages.

I also suspect the problem was the perms you changed on / usr/spool because the Xserver would need to create a valid socket under /usr/spool/sockets/X11
