Actually - yes....

You will have to re-link the Oracle binaries....

Talk to your DBA - I'm not too sure how to do it.

I know our DBA's had to do it when we went from 11.0 to 11.i

Rgds...Geoff

Doesn't have to be any impact on your database if you don't want there to be, but you'll have to re-install the oracle distribution for 11i, oracle for hp-ux 10 may not work too well on 11.

There was a thread on this recently.

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=243547

Certain versions of Oracle are "certified" by Oracle to run on certain versions of HP-UX (and all vendor's OS versions).

You may find that your version of Oracle isn't certified on HP-UX 11.0.

The Oracle may still run, but you Oracle won't provide support for you. And, the old Oracle may not run at all on the new HP-UX.

Oracle puts out a support matrix. here is an old copy, attached.

In any case, you may want to test your Oracle on another server at 11.0, before you upgrade your production system.

So long as you stay on the certification matrix, you should be okay.

Make sure you get all the patches you need into the 11 system prior to relinking.

Relink instructions:

The database and listener MUST be down.

By product:

$ cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib
$ make -f ins_rdbms.mk install

% cd $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/lib
% make -f ins_sqlplus.mk install

% cd $ORACLE_HOME/network/lib
% make -f ins_net_server.mk install

Finally, unless you have a specific reason for installing patchset 8.1.7.3, the latest available is 8.1.7.4 would be recommended install.

For everything
- shudown oracle
- shutdown listener
- shutdown every other oracle application, like dbsnmp

su - oracleuser
relink all
