It's that time of the year again! I just thought I'd make the post to encourage people to speak at HP World. I did it last year. It's definitely a learning experience.

I just submitted a presentation this year. I am sure the content will get us through the hour this year...

If you are wondering if you should do a presentation or not, the answer is yes! HP World is one of the best conferences around, and the more presentations by ordinary people like us, the better. (Can I call us ordinary?) If you are unsure about what to speak on, pick a topic you know fairly well and do it. The presentation slides are not due until the middle of June, if they accept ypur presentation, and that gives you time to become an expert in that topic.

Last year I drew a lunch-time presentation. I am hoping for a non-lunch timeslot this year, but we'll see.

Any takers?

John

Thanks John.

Since HP World is in Chicago and the boss might not pay for the education, I guess if I want to meet my itrc buds I'd better come up with something.

How to use the forums during a production crisis?

SEP

Hi,

if you have trouble getting to Chicago, what should I say. I have even trouble getting from Frankfurt to Hamburg. ;-))
It would be fun to meet those guys from the forums however.

have fun anyway,

Michael
John,

I have looked at the HP World 2004 web site where you submit a paper, but I'm a bit confused. What exactly is due right now? The only thing I've seen on the web site is where you submit the title and who the speaker is / will be.

Do you have to submit an outline or something as well?

The requirements on the web site are not very clear to me.

Maybe I'm just being dense today. ;)

Patrick

You enter a title and the the speakers, then hit submit, and you get a 2nd page where you put the summary, abstract, benefits of session, who should attend, etc.

Then in February, they get back to you and say you are approved, and send you Powerpoint slide templates and stuff...

John

You can do it in broad (sort of vague) terms, just as long as you are ready when the time comes to actually write the presentation.

John

John,

That's probably true, but that still means that I have to have some broad, sort of vague ideas about what exactly I'm going to do. :)

I hope you don't mind me popping this back to top, John.

Well....I done went and did it. I submitted a presentation for consideration for HP World 2004.

If anyone else wants to do it, you've still got time. The deadline for submission is January 30, 2004.

This is something I'd like to do, but gotta pay for it all myself. D'you suppose anyone is much interested in Citrix Metaframe for Unix? It'll be hard to not sound like a sales pitch, and its an EOL product. But maybe I can get the Citrix people to pay my way......

Chris

Patrick,

Good for you! Thanks for bringing it back up.

Chris,

It can't hurt to submit the proposal, the worst they could say is yes, then schedule you for lunchtime. Just kidding. If they say no, at least you made the effort.

SEP,

Patching is usually covered pretty well there... Security is always a good topic to talk about. A class on Ignite should be well recieved, also. (And I am sure you could get takers on people to tag team a presentation on Ignite if you asked. Ignite is the only reason I stayed sane the past 3 years...) Submit proposals on both. Betters you chances that one would get picked up. I've got 2 in right now hoping they pick up at least one of them. It also may give us more opprotunity to heckle and be heckled. (Just Kidding)

Anyone else out there care to sign up to present at HP World? (Did we mention that they waive the conference fee of you do a presentation?

John
