      <description>'tty' are data comm serial based devices and somewhat obsolete since LAN connectivity.  Prior to LAN connections everybody used data comm.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt;'pty' are 'streams' based 'pseudo' connection devices used with LAN's.  &lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt;So its as simple as data comm or LAN connections where 'tty' is the name of the device.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt;telnet = pts/NN (number is in hex)&lt;BR /&gt;terminal/modem = tty</description>
