I don't recall every seeing anything about a UPS in ioscan.

You should see the comm port as you do.

Take a look at the file /etc/ups_mond.conf
and /etc/inittab for configuration.

A UPS isn't like ordinary hardware, say a scsi bus.

The hardware address of the port its connected to should be sufficient.

Some of the new UPS units come with 10 BT lan connections. I'm guessing this is not one of those units.

What is the part number of your UPS?

SEP

When you say UPS Manager is that 'ups_mond'? The UPS monitor daemon which reports to syslog.log? I think the title UPS Manager applies only to the UPS device but not the HP-UX server.

For the HP-UX server it'll either appear as a serial mux or serial terminal connection.

"... ioscan will not explicitly display a UPS in its configuration; only the MUX port is displayed. ..."

-or-

Although the PowerTrust UPS is hardware, it displays in ioscan output only as a terminal port. Its monitoring daemon, ups_mond, is a program that reads and writes through that port.
