Hi Ron,

There is a very good document on ITRC (Doc ID# KBAN00000347) which explains this procedure in detail.

We have a failed root mirror drive on our L-2000 running HP-UX 11.00. From ioscan -funC disk we get:
disk 0 0/0/1/1.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE SEAGATE ST318203LC
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0
disk 1 0/0/1/1.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE SEAGATE ST336704LC
/dev/dsk/c1t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c1t2d0
disk 2 0/0/2/0.0.0 sdisk NO_HW DEVICE SEAGATE ST318203LC
/dev/dsk/c2t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0
disk 3 0/0/2/0.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE SEAGATE ST336704LC
/dev/dsk/c2t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t2d0

And such. HP will be coming in to replace the disk later on today, but I wanted to make sure I had my procedure correct as I'm mainly cribbing from a book. As a new HP-UX sysadmin, what am I missing?

1. Replace the hot-swappable drive in 0/0/2/0.0.0
2. vgcfgrestore - /dev/vg00 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0
3. vgchange -a y /dev/vg00
4. vgsync /dev/vg00
5. mkboot -a "hpux lq" /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0
6. Shutdown, hope it reboots, check on /etc/lvmconf/vg00.conf

I'm also somewhat confused on my syntax.. the examples I've read of the mkboot command don't match the one in my book perhaps because it's an HP-UX 11.i book not an 11.00 book. Also, is the lvlnboot command required for this recovery?

Thanks,
-Ron Levy
