IGNITE - Introduction

Hi Guys,
Is there such a thing as step by step simple introduction to IGNITE, I've got 18 B2600's to build and guess this is the way to go?

Ideally I could do a list of 'simple' steps to follow? to get this tedious job started ASAP.

The docs aren't that big once you filter out your usage of ignite!

You can look up the documents under /opt/ignite/share/doc :

Start off by reading the introduction document: intro_doc.html

Then, read the sysadm.html document.

Check the FAQ document, when you have doubts while setting up the system.

Ofcourse, you can get back to the forums for any queries ;-)

Easiest way is to have all these machines configured the same way with the same hardware.

Make one machine your golden box and install everything to it including products, patches, and ignite, making sure that whatever you want to save is in vg00.

Run the make_tape_recovery specifying that you want to save all vg00.

Do not connect the other machines to the network yet.

Boot the other machines with that tape and let them run automagically to completion.

You will then need to unconfigure the new machines with the old IP info, connect them to the LAN, and add the correct hostname, IP, and DNS resolution if different. There may be other machine specific config data that you might want to change, but these are the main items.

Also make sure that /etc/rc.config.d/hpetherconf does not have a mac address in it.

I used this to duplicate 150 C110 machines a few years ago.

What a time saver.
